Ceiling Collapse Injures Jersey City, NJ, Firefighters

March 17, 2024
Officials called the fire that damaged two Jersey City buildings "stubborn," saying it spread through voids.

Three firefighters were injured by a ceiling collapse as fire damaged two buildings in Jersey City  Saturday.

The fire started in a mixed-use building on Grand Street, and CBS 2 New York reported that firefighters were on scene for several hours.

"You have heavy fire in all the walls and the confined spaces," Chief Stephan Drennan told the television station. "There have been renovations in here, multiple levels of ceiling and floors, and now we got floor underneath, so they have been working hard on exposing that fire, that stubborn fire."

The extent of the injuries was not known.
